Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stated that signing top players is once again the main priority for the club in the upcoming transfer window.

Last season was an eventful period at Goodison Park after they managed to bring in a number of top players like Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry on a permanent basis. Even though the signings did not work out exactly as planned, it was seen as a work towards building a better future for the club. This will continue once again in the upcoming summer according to Martinez. It appears that the club are ready to back the Spaniard even after a poor campaign.

The blues could only manage 11th place finish despite an end of season form that saw them get five wins in six matches during the months of March and April. Just when it seemed that a top-10 finish would be possible, three defeats out of the last four matches meant that Everton will not be enjoying a significant increase in the TV prize money. A number of players have been linked with Everton, but it is thought that the club will be looking for more free transfers and loan deals. They are believed to be in talks with former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, who is now a free agent.

“It is an important summer. It becomes about recruitment and that’s the priority.We are very clear in what we need. We have found players that we want and it becomes a process about trying to make those targets a possibility and make them Everton players.We are very excited about the future. I think the work from this season has made us stronger and more mature.If anything, going through the difficulties of this campaign has made us hungrier for success,” said Martinez.
