SMALLER SPURS SQUAD

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he is looking to reduce the size of the squad since it is too big to work with over the course of the season. Tottenham have been on a rampant spending spree over the last couple of transfer windows.

This coupled with a number of youth players coming through and players unwilling to leave the club have contributed to a large squad. Even in the current transfer window, the club has signed several new players who will be looking to finally get to the club back into the Champions League.

Despite this, players like Aaron Lennon continue to be a key part of the setup. The England international scored in the 2-0 win over Chicago Fire. This was the final friendly match for Tottenham in the United States, as they brought an end to the pre-season tour without a defeat. Up until this point in the season I’ve been having to bet on Motor Racing F1, but am now looking forward to making money on football again!

A number of Premier League squads are no larger than 25 players. This number also includes three goalkeepers. Managers have often said that this is ideal in order to keep players happy throughout the season. Pochettino also appears to be favouring this policy after he said that a couple of names could depart White Hart Lane before the end of this transfer window.

“We have a long, long squad. I think we need to take a decision now to decide how many players to keep, because we have more than 25. For me, too many players. My idea is 25. No more than 25. We need to decide now, after our tour in America, and start to work here and decide our squad for the future,” said the new manager. Tottenham will be involved in the Europa league, but that means Pochettino will not be resting players after the manager said that he wants to win the competition.
